Two Locals Inducted Into 4-H Hall of Fame

Two Sauk Valley residents have been inducted into the Illinois 4-H Foundation’s Hall of Fame. D. Bryan Hollewell, Carroll County, and LuEllen Lee, Whiteside County were inducted Aug. 20 in the Orr Building on the Illinois State Fairgrounds.

4-H’ers From Lee County Excel At Illinois State Fair

Nearly 3,400 4-H exhibits from across Illinois were judged and displayed during the Illinois State Fair, including 45 Lee County 4-H members.

Babson Horses Known And Loved Worldwide

The Babson Arabian Horse Farm, on West Edgewood Road just outside Grand Detour, was in existence from 1932 until 2000 when the horses and farm were sold.

Autumn On The Prairie Planned At Nachusa Grasslands

Nature lovers will get a chance to see how Northern Illinois onced looked before settlers arrived during the annual Autumn on the Prairie festival at the Nachusa Grasslands on Sept. 17. Activities will go from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Sally Baumgardner: The Prairie’s Friend

There is a glow in Sally Baumgardner’s face when she talks about prairies and the plants that populate them. In 1984 Sally and her husband, Max, moved to DuPage County in Illinois. As she put it, she was soon “gobbled up by people who were involved in restoring the plant life that used to be in that place.” Her best mentors worked at the Morton Arboretum, where she was a willing student.
